Work that shows up in the numbers

Four pieces of work, from a school that went from a third full to fully enrolled, to a restaurant team that asked me to stay. Each one follows the same idea: find the people who are a good match, get to know them, and keep the conversation going until they say yes, and long after.

Independent boys' prep school, Johannesburg

From a third full to fully enrolled in a year

The challenge

The school had a weak Reception intake in a competitive, shrinking market. At the start of the year only 21 of its 66 Reception places were confirmed.

What we did

  • Rebuilt the parent journey from first search to enrolment
  • Targeted ads to reach families in the school's catchment
  • A parent guide to start the conversation, followed by nurture emails
  • Press releases that put the school's teachers in the news
  • Personal follow-up from the admissions team: calls, tours and open days

Why it worked

The digital journey found and nurtured the right families, and the admissions team turned that interest into enrolment. Neither works as well alone. I'd build the same personal touches into your process.

21 → 66Reception places confirmed out of 66, a year apart
115registrations for the following intake
225,575parents reached in the school's catchment
7.87%of website visitors signed up for the parent guide
55%open rate on the nurture emails
31pieces of print, broadcast and online coverage from 5 press releases

Community fundraising campaign, Zanzibar

Be Their Rock: a customer journey built to grow donations

The challenge

The Rock for Community raises money for 600 schoolchildren in Michamwi and Kae. Guests love The Rock, but a one-off appeal relies on hope. The campaign needed to turn a great meal into a donation, and a first donation into a habit.

What I did

I mapped every point where a guest meets The Rock, before, during and after their visit, and gave each one a job. The brief was an editorial look that still clearly belongs to The Rock family, with The Rock always leading and the campaign supporting it.

What I delivered

  • Brand and campaign strategy
  • The landing page and its story
  • Two-sided table talkers with a QR code on both faces
  • A sign-up at the till and WhatsApp messages after booking
  • Thank-you emails after every donation, then impact updates

The Rock restaurant, Zanzibar · four years and counting

The client that asked me to stay

How it started

My first job for The Rock was its media kit: a brochure that tells the story of one of Zanzibar's best-known restaurants, beautifully. That one project became four years of work together.

The moment that mattered

When I moved to the Isle of Man, I tried to step back so I could focus on my children. The team asked me to stay, and offered to work around me. That's the relationship I want with every client: so useful that distance and time zones don't matter.

What I look after

  • The media kit, with a refreshed edition on its way
  • Food, cocktail and wine menus, kept current in 13 languages
  • The website, its booking links and its terms, in every language
  • Guest messaging on WhatsApp, from booking to review (being set up now)
  • Be Their Rock, the restaurant's community campaign

The Rock and Jua, Zanzibar

Website care for two hospitality brands

The challenge

The Rock's website had grown over the years and was published in eight languages. Out-of-date software, unused plugins and small inconsistencies, like cancellation rules that read differently from one language to the next, were confusing for guests and put the site at risk.

What I did

  • A full review and fix of every page, in every language
  • One clear cancellation and late-arrival policy, everywhere
  • Security upgrades, with unused and risky plugins removed
  • Automatic updates switched on, with a full backup before every change
  • Booking buttons tested so every one leads to a booking

Now

The Rock and Jua are both on a monthly care plan. Every month I check updates, backups, every page and every booking link, so the owners never have to think about it.
